I'm guessing Storybook Mountain Mayacamas Zin? Price and location description seem to line up.
Definitely possible. I was also thinking Tofanelli, but I’m not certain where their vineyard is.

Can anyone explain what is the attraction in buying a “mystery” wine?

First, if you can figure out what it is, it's no longer a mystery. Even if you can't figure out exactly what it is, there are descriptors that may give you an inclination that it is something you would enjoy based on prior experiences with similar wines. You may also have a course of dealing with the seller such that you trust what he is offering is a good deal. Lastly, the deep discount is attractive.

Only thing I understand is “deep discount is attractive. “ No guarantee that you will guess the wine. Wouldn’t you rather spend a few dollars more for a sure thing then rely on “descriptors”?

I suppose there is always a first time, but i have never guessed wrong. Also, I am interested in trying new wines, so if it sounds good, why not give it a go? I probably buy .5% of my wine via mystery buys.

Any guesses on the Cab? GKG? Dave Phinney is the winemaker. Comes from West Napa. GKG comes from Llewelling Ranch (per LPB) and got 95 points from LPB (Wine Advocate). Not sure if either got 96 points from a critic. 96% cab sauv.

Mercury Head might fit the bill, but it appears to be 100% cab. sauv. Also received 95 points from LPB. Not sure of vyd source.

I ordered 2, and it ended up being GKG Cabernet!! Never had it but amazing deal at $70.

I suspected that it would be GKG Cabernet based the information (single vineyard, 90+% cab, 95+ WA score, $135 MSRP, Phinney), and that the pictured bottle didn’t have foil around the cork. Figured, why not have a little fun. Hopefully it’s worth the wait in a few years when I pop one open, Phinney seems pretty divisive. I’ve only tried some locations wines, which have been so so.

Almost bit, but decided to hold off. Ended up being a case of the Italian that came right after (Monteverro). Hope you enjoy the GKG!

The Zin is really freaking good and a bottle I never would have tried if not for talking this flyer. Very satisfied customer.

I've had the '13 GKG. Very solid. Definitely more "modern" and extracted but at $70 that's a good buy!

I've been underwhelmed by the Ginglinger wines I've bought from Last Bottle, whether they're Gewurztraminer or Riesling. They're decent values at $15, but I'll pass if I see them again, even at that price.

LBW should do a marathon. I’m bored out of my mind with the lockdown.

Agreed. I think it would be their most successful one yet if they do it soon.

The Sleight of Hand Cab offered today is well worth considering. I don't know where you can find a better $30 Cab (blend).
