I definitely cross reference CT before buying any last bottle offer; they have a tendency in my view to overhype the wines on offer - particularly the European stuff. Had good results on their Napa and Sonoma wines.

Sauternes and some Rhônes are the only things I’ve bought lately.

I stopped reading the narratives and only look for WB posts and CT reviews on the wines. Haven't bought anything since the Marathon, which admittedly had some really good stuff (I think from the firstbottlewines.com inventory).

Anyone else still show "order pending shipment" for their marathon wines?

My order is still pending too. I e-mailed them a couple days ago and was told they're about 75% done with fulfillment from the marathon. I mentioned that I was going out of town and she offered to bump me up in the queue.

Mine shows they shipped (no date listed), but I didn’t receive tracking info. I can’t recall whether I have in the past or not.

They are usually pretty good but they have messed up my last two orders. One has yet to be received. According to an email they have had staffing issues.

Cracked my Marathon shipment. Had to check my email 3 times in disbelief that the Wind Gap Armagh was really $16. Amazing.

Maroon Cabs are what I call Steakhouse wines. Rich, smooth and tasty, without distracting from the conversation.

It's not bad. Nothing like the Wagner family style of goop, and sold at a very reasonable price at the Last Bottle offering. The black label of the Maroon is still available at $30 on WTSO.
Just don't expect a lot of layered complexity and nuance, and take it for what it is.

Hey Josh, I am thinking of pulling the trigger on 3 bottles of this wine for about $67 each. Curious as to why you passed on it earlier. Concerns about the wine? I have only had one previous bottle of the One Point Five - the 2004 with about 10 years of age was excellent. Thanks for any feedback on the '16 version.

This is an interesting format, I am guessing some fallout from the “grape glut.“
However, their offerings can be hit or miss in general, so not sure I’m willing to pull the trigger without knowing the wine.

Any guesses on the Cab? GKG? Dave Phinney is the winemaker. Comes from West Napa. GKG comes from Llewelling Ranch (per LPB) and got 95 points from LPB (Wine Advocate). Not sure if either got 96 points from a critic. 96% cab sauv.

Mercury Head might fit the bill, but it appears to be 100% cab. sauv. Also received 95 points from LPB. Not sure of vyd source.

I don't see it being the Mercury Head, that price would be too good. LB is typically 85-90% of wine-searcher value.

Mercury Head 2017 is $130 on the website and 2016 is as low as $100 in stores. The offer mentions the price point is $135

I read that and immediately deleted the email.

I do think it is a fun format, but it feels like a great way for them to unload bottles that people wouldn't want otherwise. To really juice it up they would have to have a bunch of different bottles and some real gems at like 50% Wine Searcher Low. Then it would be worth the gamble. Imagine if they tossed in an '08 Dom P. for $89 1/2 way through the day. THAT would be fun.

My guess. I had the 2015 a couple of days ago and was impressed. I bought a case. the people who deleted the Phinney offer will probably do the same on this one. Hoefliger and Rolland made the wine.
