Got both the 2011 and 2012 V Madrone, so I’ll let y’all know how they stack up!
Now...if only LB will read my request NOT to ship til it cools off cuz it’s like 100 for the next week or more here.

I don’t love these marathons as I just don’t have the time... This one was different as I was able to score a few bottles. I guess I was lucky this time around.

I do hope the V Madrone is good as I got the 2012. Either they had a bunch or it was not selling well as it was up often and right up until the end.
Cheers,

@. Re-go

A shout out to the frozen ice pack for $4 (I think) offered by Last Bottle in my Xavier delivery yesterday. I thought about not getting it since delivery from their East Coast site on Monday usually lands at my place on Tuesday. Temps hit the 80's yesterday and the UPS truck driver decided my office wasn't open based on seeing no cars in front (car was in back). So the wine sat in his hot truck yesterday all day and I was able to get wine last night at very warm facility after hours. Got box home late last night and wine was cool to touch and ice pack still cold. Quite cold. I think it could have gone another day. I'll be getting the ice pack in the summer months for sure...

You should really do "hold" all summer till LB ships the holds and doesnt offer it anymore...thats what I do here in Connecticut...

There is no option during the marathons. “marathon shipping” is the only option and you have to move fast or lose the bottle. I’ve done 4+marathons and never have they shipped without reaching out first.

Fortunately, they do cold chain shipping to a hub, but it will likely spend a few days in the heat.

Is anyone familiar with Gardet Brut Premier Cru Blanc de Noirs NV? I've never had it, but at $29 for 1er Cru and 4 years on the lees, I figured it was worth picking up 4.

I'll be the one to pop this to the top.

Halloween mystery case sale happening today. Beyond my better judgement I bit on the mystery 6-pack for $160. Probably a bad use of wine budget, but maybe I'll get lucky.

For this one (IT IS ALL REDS! Yay!):

Every mystery case is 6 bottles of red wine. 2 wines from Europe, 3 American and a southern hemisphere blockbuster.

There’s a 93-pointer, a legendary Chateauneuf producer, Tuscany, Cabernet/Cab Franc Blend...so much excellence in this one!

Every bottle will be different in each 6-bottle case (no doubles of anything).

Every bottle is AT LEAST 50% OFF! Because we love you and we are crazy.

Mostly, all cases will be identical (i.e. if you buy 2 cases, you will likely get the same set of wines, twice).

No substitutions or special requests, sorry y’all.

Shipping will take an extra week or so and is coming from our Napa warehouse (not the East Coast one).

That’s it --- good luck! When this is gone, well, we’ll decide if we can slap some more coolness together (ha ha we will!). OK. GOOD LUCK!

My past experience was that I got my moneys worth for a mystery pack. A few times there was a dog or two. All in all not terribly bad. Good if you want to try something you would probably never consider buying.

I've found that the more expensive mysteries cases usually have things that I would normally buy and can be a decent way to explore new things if I feel like I'm in a cali zin and syrah rut. The 12 bottles for $120 usually have wines that are either so obscure you'll never be able to find them again (if you do like it) or they are total plong.

I went for the 6 for $160 deal ($27 per). Have had good luck in that price range and my expectations aren't real high.
I haven't been happy in the past with the level that just came up ( 6 for $240 ($40 per)) or higher.
Just personally a $40 wine crosses into a different expectation level and I've always thought these mystery cases are all made up of bottles that I passed on when sold in 4 bottle increments previously.
For sure the same can be said of the $27 bottles, I just don't care as much at that price point.
