Does the "Best Web" price quote not look at Wine-Searcher? Noticed that for the 2011 Flowers Sea View Ridge PN that's up right now, Last Bottle claims a best web price of $62, but the same wine can be found in Wine-Searcher results for a cheaper price (from multiple retailers).

Well, I think that they factor in shipping, and I don't know how many bottles they base the shipping rate on either.

I cant match up the wine on wine searcher or cellar tracker or anywhere on the web. That exact vintage and year.

So don't know if its a good deal or not

Looks like the 2010 is not rated yet by consumers, but previous year's notes sound good.

They wrote a note they are in Bordeaux now tasting. Guess that is taking an effect on the offers. Been very slow with offers lately...

I just reread your post again and you were probably talking about the marathon sales....IDK on that one.

Cellar Tracker reviews are pretty poor. I passed. One lady says she got it for 20 dollars. How is that? You need to take some reviews with a grain of salt.

I thought it interesting the wine spectator guys called this price reduction last summer. Saying the wine wasn't that great for 60 bucks and would go on clearance in the spring. The store owner knows his stuff on there - ny retailer. Gives you an understanding of where last bottle comes in the food chain in getting these deals. That is what interests me.

Is LBW above or below the airline / cruise industry in the food chain, or stuff sold specifically for $10 by the glass pours in the hospitality trades?

If you buy a $29 Brunello, doesn't that make it worth $29 and thus make you wonder about drinking a $29 Brunello? [snort.gif]

You bring up an interesting point. A last bottle deal for a $60 bottle of 2009 brunello wine at 29 isn't really that great a deal. You are more getting fair value. because the 2009 sucked.

But what about all those retail wine customers that bought that 2009 brunello at 60...they got hosed...

At the worst I think last bottle you get fair value. I don't think they sell you a 30 dollar wine that is worth only 15.

I think they do have certain deals where a 40 bottle wine that is really worth 40 you get at 20. But I don't think its every day and that is the key to finding those deals.

We need more experts here saying jump jump today is really a good deal and not a fair value last bottle deal..

Every once in awhile LBW has a true "deal" IMHO. The Angelica Syrah from their last marathon for $14 and the Gamut at $17 are two examples. Both drank above their price. They also used to sell more aged wines. I remember picking up some 10 - 12 year old Merlots and Syrahs that were outstanding. I don't see much older stuff anymore.

Wine searcher had it at 24 best price anywhere and pretty good reviews on ct. so for 15 bucks I bit on 8 bottles....

grab them this morning for last call on this deal.

I've not been ordering from LastBottle lately; either I cannot get any info on the wine or sometimes it's really not a deal. Today however I bit on the 4 bottle, free shipping on Clif Family Winery Kit's Killer Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 for $29.00 per bottle. People seem to like the wine and it is a deal.

Where are you seeing whole bunch of notes for the 2010? I just see 1 tasting note for the 2010 on CT. I generally don't read tasting notes from a different year than what is being offered.

and wine searcher doesn't have the 2010 listed.

Not speaking to that wine per se, but reading tasting notes for other vintages is generally a good idea, particularly when the vintage on offer is better than those reviewed in notes.

YRMV. I've enjoyed them back as far as the '05's. Always an 89-90 ish wine for me. My '12's are resting and won't be touched for at least another two years.

Are the wine retailers trying to protect their markets? Did they pass legislation to protect them and forbid wine by mail because it undercuts their business with good deals? That is anti-consumer? No wonder your state is such a mess [swoon.gif]

I logged on earlier, and it was already sold out. The $9 Open Range CA Sauv Blanc is inoffensive, and suitable for large parties, company events.
