TN: 2005 Dunham Cellars Syrah- Columbia Valley

The surprise of the afternoon. I have always been a fan of the Cabernet and blends coming from Dunham, but never had their Syrah.

This had a wonderful bright black and red fruit profile of pomegranate, cassis and black cherries. Some cocoa, hint of anise and white ground pepper were evident. A touch of soy and some scorched earth. The mouth feel is elegant and lively and the acid level clean and precise. A finely interweaved tannin base and long soft smooth finish makes this a winner indeed. For about $40ish, this is a nice addition to seek out. I will.

Mike,

I have always been impressed with their syrahs . . . very elegant, unbelievable aromatics. The wines tend to be ‘softer’ than most CA syrahs (actually having much less total tannins as determined by tannin analysis I’ve conducted) but sooooo balanced.

Thanks for the notes!

Cheers!
