2005 Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (1/5/2009)
Shows what I get for not consulting my own notes before opening another bottle. 9 months ago I liked but didn’t love this wine and thought it needed significantly more time. I meant more than 9 months but this time the wine was better. It became dark and brooding in the decanter with plum, wood smoke, unsweetened cocoa powder, and a hint of dried herbs. I would like to see the fruit flesh out a bit more to balance the earthiness. (90 pts.)
