TN: '01 Chapoutier Cornas

  • 2001 M. Chapoutier Cornas - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (5/12/2009)
Beautiful wine - nose of grilled meat, roasted vegetables, and pencil graphite. Nice density and mouthfeel, some acidity still very present. Tannins are small, very rounded, fully integrated. On the palate, more roasted meats, red and blue fruits, a hint of minerality, and a pleasant charred fruit finish that actually builds over 20 seconds’ time. (91 pts.)

Yum.

Yum is right - can’t believe I’ve got these bottles for $19.00 - fantastic buy.

I’ve got the other half waiting for tonight - see what happens.

This cuvee was made from mainly bought in grapes. Many love Chapoutiers lesser bottlings, but count me into the minority because I don’t. There are better, more expressive, lower production wines (available in the UK at least) for less £££.
