Schrader Boar's View Vineyard?

Anyone know what the story is here? The new WS mentioned that Fred Schrader purchased and planted this property, and named it due to proximity/line-of-site to Marcassin. Little else is given in the article, other than it will soon be bearing fruit. While the article also mentions the Aston wines in an unrelated section, no connection is made between Aston and Boar’s View.

There really is no connection between the two other than they are both Freds’ pinot projects. The Aston is available to us on the list currently and a very nice pinot at that. The Boars View mentioned is capatalizing on the Schrader buzz and the proximity to Marcassin. As a long time Schrader fan and collector that is all I garnered from the piece. I will purchase the Boars View when it becomes available as I really enjoy the Aston pinot’s as well as everything coming from the Schrader franchise. We opened a 2007 Hell Hole Zin Friday night and it was absolutely amazing.

I think what Jody was getting at is whether the fruit from this new vineyard be bottled under the Aston label or will it become a new label in and of itself.

Tom

Lol Tom, brevity was never my strong suit.

Bud, I also enjoy the Aston Pinots. I haven’t tried the 07’s, but I thought all the wines in the 04-06 variety pack were delicious.

I do wonder if this new vineyard will be released as a separate brand, or under the Aston label. I appreciate the breadth in style Thomas achieves with pinot. I think the R-M Summa and Aston Estate wines present an interesting contrast, despite vineyard proximity. I’m just curious what direction Fred will take with this new vineyard. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Got ya…one would think that he will capatalize on it’s proximity to Marcassin and bottle it as such under it’s own label, but what do I know ?

Cheers…

It will be its own label. The vineyard is approximately 9 acres planted to Calera, Mt Eden and Swan clones of Pinot Noir along with a small piece of Wente clone Chardonnay. We pulled a little Pinot off of it this year, its fate TBD. The piece is an upsloping saddle so it was quite a challenge to plant but the results a few years down the road should be strong.

Welcome, Thomas!

Sounds like an exciting mix of clones and site Thomas, thanks for the details. Can’t wait to try them, and that Wente Chard too.

Well there we have it. Thank you Thomas and I personally look forward to your input from time to time.

So it’s been a couple years since Thomas posted - anyone heard anything else about when this might launch?

Sad, I didn’t even look at the dates on the this thread until you just said it’s been a couple of years. I’m embarrassed for myself.

Hey TRB
When are you coming back to the beach?

That was my bad, bumping my own ancient post. I was hoping the man himself might chime in. The pending launch of Cirq reminded me of this project.

btw, nice digs in your latest series of wine porn - I lived in the West End for years. I really miss DC.

Short notice… release in a few days. Anyone have a concept of the price of this? Schrader = hate to ask.

Curious as well. Any idea as of style?

I’m in. With UV as the vineyard manager, and TRB as the winemaker, I think we can pretty well anticipate style. Fred seems to prefer things on the more hedonistic end of the spectrum, and Ulises seems to be the go to these days to farm that kind of fruit. Thomas has also proven expert in letting terroir supersede his winemaking (e.g. Rivers Marrie). Those factors combined should make for an interesting Pinot.

I’m curious to see if the proximity to Marcassin and ‘place’ are noticeable in this wine.

+1

Does it have it’s own website?

Where’s that Will Segui guy? He’s a TRB “apprentice” and should know some more details.

Will, where are you?
