TN: 2005 Domaine Léon Barral Faugères - Languedoc Roussillon

Odd wine that is hard to put a finger on. Upon pouring there is a strong sweet flower aroma but that seems to fade leaving some Provencal herbs, roasted fruits and meat as well as some rocky minerals. Palate is a wee bit tart with a lean feel, strong acidity but a touch of lingering heat on the back of the palate and late acting tannin. Some aged roasted meat flavor with notes of fig and cherry. While I like interesting complex rustic wines I’m not sure the pieces add up to a worth while whole here. Definitely for the palate who appreciates old school rustic animal wines. I could see this getting better with age if the complexities integrate into a polished easy whole.

I bought this one recommendation from board member Josh Beck. Found the last bottle on the WineX shelf after he cleaned them out. Definitely not for the Laube-ites out there.

This is a good wine. Drank a bunch of it last year.
