TN: CA pinots, apart and together...

  • 2005 Windy Oaks Estate Pinot Noir Proprietor’s Reserve Schultze Family Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (4/5/2009)
Decanted 1 hour, back in bottle for 4, then consumed over 3. Bright red color. Sweet smell, watermelon, strawberries. Over the course of the evening, palate shifted from sweet red fruit dominance to a blend of fruit, spice and minerality. Subtle, elegant wine.
  • 2004 Tandem Pinot Noir Sangiacomo Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (4/5/2009)
Decanted one hour, back in bottle for 4, then consumed over 3. Deep color. Funky, earthy nose. Big flavors, rich fruit, baking spice. Flirts with being over the top. Smooth finish, well balanced.

Also, we did a little blend of these wines during dinner. The thought was that these wines were in such contrast to each other that a blend would be interesting. It was a vibrant, juicy, spicy, flavorful drink that did highlight the attributes of each individual wine.
