Quick impressions: 1994 Grange, 1998 Beaucastel, 1995 Banyul

Dinner last night with friends. No formal notes but we had some guests from out of town who are big winos, so we decided to play a bit.

1994 Penfold’s Grange. Popped and poured blind. Rich nose of dark fruits, sweet oak, very very slight whiff of smoke. Classic Grange. The palate was full bodied echoing the nose in flavors and a long long finish. It opened up over 2 hours and has decades of life left. A definite “A”

1998 Beaucastel Rouge. Popped and poured. The best showing yet for this bottling in my experience. Gorgeous nose and palate. Fragrant, balanced.

1995 Banyuls Domaine Du Mas Blanc “Rimage” Cuvee Speciale Dr. Parce et fils. A perfect match with the chocolate dessert. Open and ready for business. This will get better and better with age. It is on the upslope of the aging curve.
