TN- 2021 Occhipinti SP68 Bianco

Weird! Not sure if I like it, but unique and certainly worth trying. Gold in color, right out to the edge- looks like flat ginger ale. Very slightly hazy. The nose is intensely floral, concentrated potpourri, cantaloupe and honeydew melons, ripe yellow peach, strong backdrop of flowery perfume. A touch of Retsina. This nose is wild!

Medium acidity in the mouth. A touch of grainy tannins, actually. The tastes are quite unexpected given the nose. Bone dry and under-ripe; it reminds me of intense bitter grapefruit pith. Crunchy hard under-ripe peach/nectarine, some grassy flavors, salinity. Finish revisits that bitter citrus pith flavor reminiscent of the bitterness you get after swallowing Amaro.

It’s an interesting wine for sure. Not the best to drink unaccompanied but actually went quite nicely with a caprese of local tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, alongside some baked flounder. Definitely worth trying once. Will I buy it again? Still deciding…

We poured this as the white option at our wedding. Have a soft spot for it.

That must’ve been a helluva wedding!
