TN: Dom Perignon 2012 and our summer garden

It’s warm and humid in Southern California and the backyard garden is doing just fine. I figured some margaritas as our Bearss Lime is going strong, but the boss said she wanted some 2012 Dom with the guacamole :avocado:. Pulled a view jalapeños, one Serrano, a bunch of cherry heirlooms, and some cilantro from the garden. Fried up some corn tortillas and opened the Dom.
I have never been a great fan of Dom Perignon but the 2012 is really good. Right now, to my palate this is drinking better than the 2012 Cristal or the Krug 168. This is very accessible, nice fruit, just the right amount of yeastiness, a persistent fine mousse, rich texture, and a long creamy finish. Jut fine and nice with the bit of heat in the guacamole.
Then a bit of fried rice with the peppers and some basil :herb: and mint which are growing like weeds, and just a bit of finely chopped pork loin. Used Bomba rice for the fried rice from Nola and I really liked the texture. Again nice with the Dom.
I guess I need to plant an avocado tree to tie it all together.

Damn I wish we could grow avocados and citrus. Looks great as does the DP.

Great pics, I’m also wishing I could grow such edibles in my backyard!

2012 Dom Perignon, why are you so dom expensive!

and a mango tree for desserts.

Would love to have a mango tree. Will have to research if that is practical in Southern California? But for dessert (or starter) Black Mission Figs will have to suffice

My wife and I tasted the 12 Dom at the domaine last month. Just incredible, delicious juice. I don’t tend to like overly yeasty champagne, and this vintage really hits the mark. Looking back at my TN, it exhibits a range of fruit from green apple, to citrus, to pineapple and underripe tropical fruits. There’s also a hint of mint and of course a touch of yeast.

That garden is beautiful.

Speaking of gardens, Moet has a pretty nice one. I highly recommend the private Dom tour for anyone visiting. You get a personalized experience, and not the “champagne is made from these three varietals” and “this is what riddling is” talk track. And finish off with a couple glasses of Dom in the garden next to the fountain. One of the more memorable domaine visits.

they grow well. Best variety IMO is Valencia. Wong Farms. Talk to Jason: (760) 626-4483. He delivered mine.
