2018 Marietta Cellars Christo - USA, California, North Coast (2/20/2022)
Day 1: So I am very concerned about the quality of the wines at Liquor Boy in St. Louis Park. I had to return a case of Roederer Anderson Valley Brut and opened a bottle of this from them and had heat damage character. This bottle from WineStreet Spirits is similar to the other two 92 pointers. Spice, blueberries, raspberries, dark chocolate and minerals. Medium plus finish. (Composite Cork) 91 points
Day 2: Ok on day 2 but a bit heavy on the spice and mild heat. Spices, fruit, minerals and dark chocolate. Somewhat hot finish. Certainly not as good. 87 points
Day 3: This bottle is all over the place on the 3 days. Day one the best, day 2 not very good and day 3 solid. Yes wine does evolve over 3 days and for young wines mostly good and this is no exception. Blueberries, exotic spices, cherry, minerals, dust and dark chocolate. A hint of wood on the finish. 90 points (91 points)
2018 Marietta Cellars Christo - USA, California, North Coast (12/14/2021)
Day 1: Nice right out of the gate. This is not the disaster that the 17 was of the Christo. Blueberries, spice, cherry, dust and floral notes. Very smooth overall and certainly a crowd pleaser of a wine. 91 points
Day 2: Dust, cherry, minerals, floral, earth and spices. Again great value for $20.00. Not over the top like so many blends from California. Balance is in full effect. 92 points (92 points)
2018 Marietta Cellars Christo - USA, California, North Coast (10/15/2021)
Day 1: What a difference the vintage makes. The 2017 Christo is in the category for worst wine of the year but this wine on a pop and pour is delicious. Dark purple. Dark chocolate, blackberries, plum, spices, coffee beans and minerals. In your face wine done right. Medium to long finish and just tasty. Excellent QPR. 92 points
Day 2: Less intensity but still very nice. Underbrush, pepper, blackberries, spice and minerals. I like this wine much better on the pop and pour. This wine is ready to drink now. 90 points
Day 3: Again lost some of the luster of day 1. While young this wine should be consumed within the next five years.
Recommendation: Buy and pop, pour and enjoy. Drink 2021 to 2026. (92 points)
