TN: 2015 Château de Pez (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

We wanted to bring the “apéro dinatoire” with a decent bottle to a friend’s house today and this was the only thing that spoke to me in the closest wine shop we could find. In retrospect, I should have gone to the Bollinger La Grande Année 2012 that was also on the shelf…

Other TNs seem pretty good so I’m hoping that this was an off bottle or in a dumb phase. Nose is showing graphite, cedar and very little fruit. Rather muted not much to talk about. The palate is dull: hollow mid-palate and again, very little fruit. Some cassis and blackberry if you really look for it. Powdery tannins and medium acidity. Short finish. I’m hoping I got a bad apple but there wasn’t enough of anything to make me look for this again.

Sounds like a bottle that suffered some damage. I had a decent bottle of the 2012 last year.

I had a very similar experience with a bottle of their 2013 last year, but then I also had a bottle of the 1997 that I really enjoyed.
