TN: Two Roses....(short/boring)

Susan really likes roses, so we tried these two over the weekend:

  1. Garage d’Or LoveDrunk American Rose Wine (13.1%; www.MaisonNoirWines.com) André Hueston Mack/Dundee/OR 2021: Med.light copper/salmon color; strong aromatic/perfumed cranberry/strawberry/Grenache/floral bit earthy/PN bit spicy fairly pretty nose; quite tart/tangy near dry strong cranberry/strawberry/watermelon Grenache-like/PN pleasant bit simple flavor; med. bright strawberry/cranberry/floral Grenache light earthy/PN finish w/ little tannins; a pretty enough rose but just that. $17.00 (KK)

  1. I Pastini LeRotaie IGP: Valle d’Itria/Puglia Rose Wine (12%; 100% Susumaniello; www.IPastini.It; KermitLynchImprts/Berkeley) 2020: Pale garnet/dark salmon/bit copper color; light earthy strong cranberry/watermellon/strawberry/spicy/spiced cherries quite fragrant/perfumed nose; quite tart/tangy strong strawberry/cfherry/floral totally dry bit earthy/rustic bit complex rather bright/spicy flavor; very long/lingering bright cherry/strawberry/floral totally dry slight earthy/rustic quite pretty finish; quite a lovely bright perfumed rose; the slightly rustic character makes it much more interesting than most tutti-frutti roses; a bit pricey for a rose but a decent value. $22.50 (KK)

More friggleurfle from TheBloodyPulpit:

  1. Another wnry w/ which I’m unfamiliar. Nor know of the winemaker, André Hueston Mack. They indicate that the make mostly OR wines, but the “American” designation suggests their may be WashState Grenache in this wine.
Their labels look very much like the ugly CharlesSmith black on white/garish labels. In addition to making wines, they also make a large line of cutsey T-Shirts.

  1. Recently had two very good whites from I Pastini, so thought I would try their rose. Not a profound rose, but the slightly rustic/SouthItaly character makes it more interesting than most roses.
Susumaniello is an exceeding rare grape, used mostly for blending, grown in the Puglia area. DNA suggests it’s a cross of Sangiovese & some other unknown grape variety.
