TN: 2019 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet

Had this beauty last night. I think WK may have underrated it a tad. Not amazing value if you pay W-S low (2019 low on the free version is $284 USD). Other vintages are in the more sane ~$100 range. I’m happy to have purchased for less than that.

This pours medium straw in the glass with faint flecks of green. The nose opens over the course of an hour to reveal a lovely classic white burgundy profile. Aromas are of pear, white flowers, spearmint, cold cream, very light smoky reduction, a whisp of vanilla custard, and crushed rocks. The palate enters on the lovely sweet pear fruit turning to a slightly elevated mid-palate viscosity, then to medium plus acid which turns a tad sour. The finish is quite nice and classic if just a tad elevated in alcohol (13.5% noted on the label). All in all this is quite lovely and a good quality Village wine, if a touch marked by the warmth of the vintage. Certainly a stretch at market pricing, but if you can get this directly from a source the value is there. (92 pts.)
