2020 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese feinherb Ur Alte Reben MCM - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (5/8/2022)
First thing is if you want to drink this now, decant the heck out of it. I started with a pop and pour, and was woefully underwhelmed. It smelled great, but there was a hole in the mid-palate that sucked all the air out of the wine. So I dumped it into a decanter, as there was no way it was that thin. Four hours later the hole had completely filled in, and the wine gained weight, texture and palate complexity. Six hours later it showed much like the young 2012, which has aged into a monumental wine with years to spare. There’s a unique flavor profile to this wine that I have never been quite able to explain. I first noticed it in the 2012. The 2017 had some of it, and the 2020 has it in spades.
