TN: 2014 Domaine de Montille Bourgogne (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne)

This was nothing short of a terrific Bourgogne. One third from Volnay, the rest from Puligny. A very stylish wine made with a light touch, and only 12.5% ABV. Super drinkable even without food.

The nose is delightful: detailed, understated and savory. There are notes of red cherries, red flowers, sous bois and faint dry wood. It doesn’t seem at all primary at this point, it has reached a nice stage of early maturity. On the palate it is very light on its feet and altogether savory with attractive, ripe red fruit, judicious oak and quite distinct minerality. It is very elegant and sleek with mild tannins, lifting acidity and pretty much an impeccable balance. The tannins grip a bit towards the finish and the mouthfeel gets firmer as we speak but overall it is extremely seamless and pleasant. Very appropriately proportioned, not any fat to speak off, this is an awfully pretty wine full of class.
