2020 Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Altenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken #7 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/10/2022)
A limpid green gold color with a fresh and stony nose. Slate, citrus, florals and herbal back notes. On the palate, this is focused and diamond etched. It’s slate, acid and soil driven. Compared to the N. Herrenberg “Egon” kabinett trocken, it has more weight, but this is in context of the weightlessness to the kabinett. More lime, slate, verbena and florals on the palate. A finely textured, mouthwatering wine many might call austere, but I love it in a a Frederic Emile style with Saar roots. (91 pts.) -
2020 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett trocken “Egon” #19 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/10/2022)
Drunk over two nights.
Reduction that becomes less obvious with air, but a little is still there on day two, leaving a beautifully fresh nose with lime zest, grapefruit, slate, green herbs, and florals. Gossamer in texture, this has a featherweight grace that dances on the palate. Complex and yet fleeting. Focused and filigree fine almost electric with a razor sharp clean finish that still seems to linger. A wine of rocks and acid more than fruit. Mouthwatering. You have to have an affinity for this style, and I do. 91
It gained a little focus and less sharpness overnight. Excellent wine in its style. (91 pts.)
