TN: 2013 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche

Very tight to begin with. Cracks open in a wide bowled glass after about an hour to reveal notes of dried flowers, iron, cranberry, cherry and brown spices. There’s so much perfume that builds and ample structure under all of the wine’s pretty façade. Great balance and drive and whilst it is far too young there is pleasure to be had.

I had this on release. I thought it was very good, but not as great as I might expect from this producer/vintage/vineyard. Then again, they produced no 2006 or 2010, but riservas in 2011 and 2012. Clearly they haven’t followed the vintage reputations in the last 15 years or so.

There is a Bruno Giacosa Barolo Riserva Falletto Vigna Le Rocche in 2016 which should be released any day now. It will be interesting to taste that. OTOH it looks like it will be over $600!
