TN: 2003 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Auction

#22-04, 7.5% abv. The Prüm sponti is here in spades; I won’t call it reduction anymore because it really isn’t reduction. There’s a sweetness to the nose here, coupled with the sponti that reminds me a bit of jackfruit. The fruit profile on this wine overall is actually quite strange. It doesn’t have any of the typical Mosel fruits, and instead veers to low-acid tropical fruits like jackfruit (or even durian, sans stench). This is an incredibly creamy edition of Mosel riesling (and made more so by the typical creaminess of the vineyard). Very low acid, but this is ethereal and floats on the palate. A very atypical bottle as far as Prüm (and Mosel riesling) is concerned, but delicious nonetheless. (93 pts.)
