TN: 2014 Gaec du Lautaret - Cornas "Emotion" (France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas)

2014 Gaec du Lautaret Cornas Emotion - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas (10/29/2021)
– decanted approx. 75 min. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 2.5 to 3 hours –

NOSE: dark red fruits; earthy; hints of pepper and wet stones; meaty; some licorice tones emerged about 2.5 hours after opening.

BODY: black-garnet color with faint notion of bricking throughout; color is of great depth; medium to medium-full bodied.

TASTE: seems a bit closed at the 75 min. mark (first taste); medium-light to medium concentration of fruit, initially, but it did fill-in a little bit by the 2.5 hr. mark; lacks tension/zip/verve; this does speak of its geographical origin, but it’s not a diamond in the rough, which is what I was hoping for, given the fact that it was a recent $35 purchase. Labelled at 13% alc., and I believe that because the alcohol was not noticeable, and this was – overall – on the lighter, easy-drinking, end of the spectrum. Gut impression score: 89 - 90, but not a rebuy for me.
