TN: 2016 Jean Tardy - Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges)

2016 Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils Nuits St. Georges Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges (10/27/2021)
– uncorked approx. 1 hr. before first taste –
– tasted non-blind over approx. 1.25 hrs on Day 1; revisited on Days 2 and 3 –

NOSE: light to medium-light uplifted purple berries and plum; little bit of reduction; hint of older woman’s perfume (Chanel No. 5, perhaps); cinnamon/mulled wine. Day 2: same as Day 1: fairly expressive; marigolds and raspberry licorice combo.

BODY: violet-ruby color of medium-shallow depth; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: dark red fruits; on the rustic side; a touch funky; medium to medium+ acidity; 13% alc. not noticeable; seems a bit tight; at times, seemed more earthy/purple-fruited than red-fruited. DAY 2: rustic; not thick/gloppy; some mineral; pretty much the same as on Day 1. There is a noticeable and slightly off-putting element that comes across as synthetic in nature. DAY 3: synthetic element gone; rustic and red-fruited. Drink Now and over the next 10 years. Gut impression score: 89 - 90.
