TN: 2016 Paolo Manzone - Barolo Serralunga d'Alba (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

2016 Paolo Manzone Barolo Serralunga d’Alba - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (7/28/2021)
– bottle opened 27 hours before this note –
– tasted non-blind over two days; TN from Day 2 –

NOSE: tar; cherries; stony mineral; moderately expressive; hint of golden tobacco; cherry licorice.

BODY: slightly hazy, rustic, ruby color of medium-light depth; medium-light bodied.

TASTE: pretty tannic on Day 1, and also on Day 2. no[t funky; mostly tannin; red-fruited; medium to medium+ acidity; 14.5% alc not overtly noticeable; certainly nothing I would call “modern” in style. I like it, but it needs time. Hold.

If you ever have a chance to taste in person, Paolo is a character.

quick-hitter TN. No meaningful movement over the past couple of years.
