TN: 2011 Saxum Broken Stones

Purple in color. 15.6% ABV. 78% Syrah, 18% Mourvedre and 4% Petite Sirah. Sublime nose of black and blue fruits, smoke and violets. Full bodied with exquisite acidity. Rich and silky with exceptional balance. Concentration and power in spades. Blackberry, blueberry liqueur, creme de cassis and cocoa on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Breathtaking wine from an overlooked vintage. Saxum hit the ball out of the park with the 2011 vintage. Best over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 97 points.

Great note. I still have one of these left (and, somehow several other 2011s). Looking forward to opening. Any suggestions on decanting/opening times? Thx.

Had a 2010 Broken Stones last night that in contrast to the 2011 has a 15% Grenache component.
The Grenache added bright red fruit, & spicy notes.
Similarly gorgeous to Tom’s note above.
Was everyone’s favorite WOTN.

We decanted 90 minutes.

This was a pop and pour that was consumed slowly. I think a 60 minute decant wouldn’t hurt.

2011 was just a banner vintage for Saxum.
