Enjoyed two half-bottles over a nice tasting menu this weekend:
Zind-Humbrecht 2002 Riesling Brand - even deeper golden color than expected. Rich, aged flavors. A bit flatter than I would’ve liked; more acidity would’ve come in handy at this age. Still, it was complex and fairly enjoyable with various dishes. Drink up.
Ridge 2001 Monte Bello - this bottle was truly outstanding. Fully mature? Showed more complexity than a 1999 half-bottle that we had last year. Quite herbal, in a good way, maybe from the higher-than-usual percentage of merlot. Deep, rich flavors that married beautifully with strip loin. Wow.
Thanks,
Peter
