TN: 2020 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Riesling Kabinett (Germany, Nahe)

  • 2020 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Nahe (7/24/2021)
Quite green notes on the start. Green apples, pear, mint, flint. Cristaline, racy acidity and a tightly delineated and lasting bitter finish. Since we were outdoors I put it in an ice bucket. At the start, when colder, it seemed a bit softer in acid, but I noted that I may prefer it that way. Early on, the cold rounded over some of the jagged edges of the wine. But with about an hour of air it started revealing itself though. And what a lovely 2020 kabinett. Filigreed vintage indeed. Pineapple, key lime, tart clementine. Fresh green herbs, freshly cut steel swarf. Chalky, piquant and persistent slightly salty bitter grapefruit finish. As if an arborist and a lathe worker met in the cellar. AP 35 21.
