TN: 1991 Gonzales Byass Palo Cortado Anada

A rare, ‘vintage’ sherry…aged 27 years prior to bottling
90 minute decant
Medium amber/orange sheen
Dreamy aromas of nuts, dusty oranges, aged leather, pineapple, high-toned citrus, mint
On the palate, dry, but not austere…quite elegant with solidity, juicy acidity, ethereal, a long finish
Not the powerhouse that some ancient VORS+ bottles can deliver, but this is still a beautiful, complex palo cortado

I opened a bottle of this toward the latter part of last year, and it was very enjoyable. Not as intense as something like a Bodegas Tradicion Palo Cortado or El Maestro Sierra’s, for that matter, but still very nice. Great to try an anada, as they aren’t very common.

Yup, fully agree.

Loved this at Sherryfest a few years ago. I have one bottle which is not next up but in queue for my Sherry dinners if I can ever get a critical mass going. Failed in May, failed in June, I don’t like organizing wine dinners in the summer so I’ll try again in the Autumn.
