A Delicious Rosso and an Accessible Vaucrains

  • 2014 Conti Costanti Rosso di Montalcino - Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino (5/16/2021)
Bricky rusty garnet. Nose of strawberry blossom, dried cherry, leather, earth. Layers of cherry, dark plum, leather, deep earth, Kalamata olive, and soulful dried tomato on the palate. Fresh acidity and feathered tannin. Longer finish of smooth plum and earth. Quite delicious! (90 pts.)
  • 2011 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru (5/14/2021)
Encouraged by recent CT notes, we decided to open this. Darker translucent ruby color. Nose of billowing floral notes, acrid damp cellar, fresh berry, plum pits, earth. Layers of raspberry, pulpy iodine, craggy fine dirt, and a hint of creaminess on the honed palate. Freshening acidity and firm, structured tannin. Longer finish of earth, dark berry, granite, and grip. Surprisingly accessible, this wine is setting a very fine standard already. (92 pts.)
