Two great 1990 Trimbach Cuve Frederic Emile rieslings

At good friends’ home: grilled salmon and homemade mango chutney; homemade strawberry short cake. We brought the wines:

90 CFE: dry fruity deep and vibrant; very very long searing finish. Minerals and elegant fruit.Harmonious and fruit that is essentially dry. Great match for the salmon.

90 CFE VT (vendanges tardives) : rounder bouquet. softer, but not soft. Not dessert level sweetness, but sl. off dry. Excellent fruit; long finish very fruity and hits all of the palate. Very pleasing; perhapsthe “regular” was more compatible with the food? but, both were great of 30+ year old Alsace riesling.

Big Bravo on both. 30 year old Alsace riesling…ageless and still pristine.

Nice, thanks for the notes! I have one lone bottle of the 1990 CFE to open for our anniversary one of these years.

My last verticale at the domain in 2018, for a tremendous bottle :
Riesling Frédéric Emile 1990 : 18,5/19
Bouteille parfaite selon Pierre Trimbach.

and good to see you posting.

thanks alan…good to “see” you too…maybe someday for real.

Still have 1 mag of the 1990 Trimbach CFE Riesling. Will open sometime this year. Great wine IMHO.

Should be perfect, furthermore in magnum (on a perfect bottle).
Trimbach does not really fancy about residual sugar but the CFE VT 1990 is great too, very subtle.

I have a very few half bottles of the 1989 Trimbach CFE VT and SGN remaining in the cellar. Both are really good wines. I haven’t tried the 1990 Trimbach Clos Ste Hune since 1996 but have a case that I must start on. It was a great wine when I had last had it and I have heard others say the same.

Thanks for the note!

I have a 90 CFE so excited to read this.

Thank you for the notes, Stuart. These sound amazing.

  • one.

Awesome, thanks for the notes. I had a stellar and still quite youthful 2010 and 2001 recently.

My last tremendous visit at the domain in june 2018 (mix verticale CSH, FE) :

Visit in november 2013 (verticale FE) :
