Pio Boffa, proprietor and managing director of the Pio Cesare winery in the town of Alba in Piedmont, Italy, passed away on Saturday, April 17 from Covid-19 complications. He was 66.

Incredibly tragic and unfortunate. Great article. Loved this little anecdote:

During that lunch, we were discussing the various offerings of Barolo he produced and I asked him a question about his “regular” Barolo. He immediately stopped his conversation with one of the other journalists and said to me: “It’s my classic Barolo, don’t call it regular.” Less than a year later, Boffa changed the label on this wine to read “e non chiamato ‘base’” – “please don’t call it ‘regular’”. I had learned my lesson.
