Isn't it a peti?

So real spring weather is here and it’s time to drink something light and fresh. I have to say I have never been that big a fan of the genre but had a wonderful pet-nat from the Loire yesterday: Les Capriades Vin De France Pet Sec Natural. I believe this is mostly chenin. Very clean, linear and minerally on the palate. Gentle mousse. Would love to try with something like razor clams. No I am not turning into an over the hill hipster.

An on top of the hill hipster perhaps?

Sounds lovely but then I find pet nats generally fun to drink.

Even if turning hipster, all things must pass.

Natural? Now, isn’t it a sham?

During his final vintage, Bryan Harrington made a pet nat from skin fermented Pinot Gris. Definitely hipster and a bit too pet/explosive, but it was my favorite thing to sip while pouring at his last couple of open houses. A good pet nat can definitely be enjoyable.

For me it is an infrequent niche thing but can certainly have its place. In this case I kept thinking of razor clams which otherwise is a Chablis thing for me. Having warm sun on my face probably helped a lot.
