Anyone have opinions on Vista Alegre 40 year Tawny port? I searched the forum and found some comments from 2012, and nothing on wine searcher.
Google searches didn’t come up with anything useful.
A store near me has bottles for $130.
Thanks

I’ve never had the Vista Alegre but at that price, there’s others I’d get instead.
Vista Alegre is a renowned producer of porcelain and crystal items.
I would hazard their wine selection is a result of marketing diversification, and likely a private label. I doubt they have the vines, liquid and the casks, especially for a 40 YO.
I would suggest you focus on the port specialists, especially in this calibre, even if it’s a 20 YO. 20 YO is considered the optimal tawny quality for price threshold anyway.
I’ve visited their facilities near Pinaho. The Port company is actually “Vallegre S.A.” and Vista Alegre is a label/brand. I’ve not had it in some years but last time I tasted their tawny line up it was excellent. That is a great price for a 40 year old tawny. The only thing you would want to check is the bottling date and make sure it is somewhat recent (should be printed on the label somewhere).
I don’t recall if they have a connection to the porcelain company, but the Port company has been around for well over 100 years.
