2014 Andrew Will ‘Esploso’ Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley

Dark ruby, not inky color. The aromas are the best part of this today with red and black currants over some notes of black pepper and an herbal touch. The palate is rich and ripe, but with somewhat obtrusive tannins and a chunky texture. The fruit is there, some strawberry to go with the currants, fruit nicely balanced with a little more black than red, this is powerful but compact, maybe in an awkward state at barely six years. Rated 89 tonight, up to 4 points of improvement likely over 5 – 10 years.

Thanks for the note. I’m sitting on some 2013 Esploso. Maybe I’ll let it rest a while longer.

Most of the Andrew Will wines I’ve had have seemed to be at their best from 10 - 15+ years of age. This bottle was handy, in retrospect I should have gone downstairs for something with more bottle age.

Other than their base bottling Columbia Valley Cabernet I agree age them 10 plus.
