TN: 2015 Silas Malbec "The Optimist"

I was fortunate to be able to pick up my Berserker Day wines in person and meet Alex yesterday (great guy, great passion!). Since he curated this desert island case with wines he feels require no further aging (though it certainly wouldn’t hurt in many cases) I figured it was safe to give one a try straight away.

Blended with about 10% Viognier (if memory serves on the percentage), 14.3% ABV. A beautiful, vibrate purple, the wine opens with expressive notes of bright fresh red fruit, cinnamon, tropic notes (surely from the Viognier). Bright acidity on the palate, with the fresh red fruit shining through, very soft, fine tannins, and a hint of mocha on the finish. Really nice wine, and like no other Malbec I’ve ever had.
