TN: 2013 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Les Goulots

I don't usually love 2013 red Burgundy; I find them to be generally hard and unyielding, with not enough fruit to match the acid.

Naturally, Fourrier's style is the right one to break my preconceptions here - this is without question the best 13 I've had. From start to finish this has a deep core of bright, crunchy red fruit, with a darker and more serious profile than Fourrier's village wines. Mocha and underbrush lie beneath the surface along with integrated, long-grained tannins. There isn't any significant tertiary development here but the wine is fully resolved, seamless and drinking so well. These will continue to develop nicely, but when they're this delicious, why wait?
