TN: 2006 Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune 1er Cru Grèves

  • 2006 Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune 1er Cru Grèves - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru (1/22/2021)
Decanted for 90 minutes. Dark translucent ruby. Nose of piercing pine forest, cranberry, black raspberry, iodine, high-pitched dark violets, damp cellar. Layers of blackberry, hearty raspberry, rocky dirt, iron particles, and thistle on the primary but fine-grained palate. Copious acidity and serious tannin. Long finish of earthen dark berry fruit, gravel, and ferric grip. Unapologetic wine of the soil. Young now but already full of transparent character. (92 pts.)

Becky Wasserman told me she thought 2006 would turn out better than 2005 and were more classical in style. By then I had spent all my money on 2005s…but i did get some '06 Lafarges.

Mel,

Agree, Lafarge is such a great producer vintage after vintage. Interesting to hear Becky Wasserman’s thoughts.

Please post if you crack some 2006’s.

Cheers,
Doug
