TN: Taking One for the Team: Avaline White & Red...(short/boring)

Tasted these two this weekend:

Avaline WW Catalonia/Spain (11.5%; www.AvalineWine.com; Certified Organic grapes; Vegan Friendly; “Dry w/ a crisp/fresh finish”; Free from: Added Sugar/artificial colors/concentrates; Pairs well with: “Fresh cut flowers & your favorite meal”; Xarello grape) To friendship, CameronDiaz/KatherinePower; Can Ràfols dels Caus/Penedes/Spain NV: Lots of tiny/mesmerizing bubbles/dissolved CO2; pale yellow near colorless; very light floral/dandelions/slight muscatty/vaguely fruity pretty vapid nose; off-dry (1.0-1.2% r.s.?) slight prickle quite soft pretty vapid/watery very light floral/dandelions/muscatty utterly dull flavor; very short off-dry vapid/watery/dull clean finish; an utterly vapid/watery/dull white that makes you feel good about yourself if you drink enough btls; way overpriced at $20.00 (TW)

Avaline RW Vins de France (14.5%; www.DrinkAvaline.com; Certified organic grapes; Vegan Friendly; “Light to medium body w/ hints of cherry & the perfect touch of spice”; Free from: Added sugar/articicial colors/concentrates; Pairs well with: “Candelight & a starry night”) To Friendship: CameronDiaz/KatherinePower NV: Fairly dark color w/ slight bubbles fairly strong vaguely grapey/fruity/maybe Grenache/plummy slight earthy/Languedoc-like pleasant/simple nose; quite soft some grapey/vaguely fruity/Grenache/plummy slightly off-dry (0.3%-0.6% r.s.) rather simple flavor w/ light very soft tannins; med.short soft light grapey/Grenache/fruity finish w/ very light soft/porky tannins; some mildly pleasant grapey character but pretty dull/innocuous red; spicy like a can of BenHur thyme of Susan’s Mom dating back to the '40’s; bit more interesting than the white but still pretty dull red; way overpriced at $21.50 (TW)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. Found both of these at the SantaFe TotalWine. They didn’t have the high-profit/winery direct shelf-talker, so was relegated to the very bottom shelf. Had to look a bit for it.
    This is, of course, the new “clean” wine from CameronDiaz. Thought I’d try them with very low expectations. These two fully delivered on those expectations & then some.
