2013 Lafon Volnay Clos des Chenes

Closed with a Diam 30 which had a slippery, shiny coating of possibly silicone. Dark color and seemingly extracted a bit, with an equally dark nose of blue fruits; fairly accessible with no secondary flavors at this point. Smooth on the palate with good length. Keep for more maturity but worth trying a bottle now if you have a few.

I recall buying a 1996 of this off a list at Salish Lodge in WA and expecting Lafarge type fireworks.
Oddly Lafon reds feel a bit clunky to me. Few producers who cross over as a master with one grape tend to be a master of both and tend to have a sense of chunkiness to meā€¦Dujac with whites like Monts Luisants, Lafon with reds, same with Coche. Then there are those like Ramonet and Niellon who make inspired reds and whites coincidentally from the same area.

Hope these continue to bloom in cellar for you.
