TN: Two Unusual Whites...(short/boring)

Had these two whites over the last few days:

  1. Mas Champart IGP: Pays d’Oc (13.5%; MeBalP; 70% Terret/30% GrenacheGris; Plntd: 1900; KermitLynchImports) Isabelle et Matthieu Champart/Bramefan/St.Chinian 2018: Med.light gold color; rather stony/chalky/mineral light grapefruity/appley/quince almost Loire-like nose; fairly tart/tangy/metallic rather stony/chalky/mineral some grapefruity/quince/apple rather lean flavor; med.long rather stony/chalky/mineral light apple/quince/grapefruity pleasant enough finish; a fairly typical SouthFrance white but somewhat unthrilling & not a lot of interest; mostly stony w/ little fruit character. $21.00 (KK)

  1. Heidi Schrock Furmint (Q; L-N 1321019; trocken; EB; 14.5%) Weingut HeidiSchrock/Rust/Burgenland 2018: Med.gold color; lightly fragrant bit perfumed talc/chalky/earthy light floral/dandelions rather quiet nose; fairly tart/bit metallic some earthy/chalky lightly floral/Furmint/dandelions slight herbal flavor; med. lightly floral/dandelions bit chalky/earthy finish; a very quiet/low-key expression of Furmint; may benefit from a few yrs to put on weight I suspect. $29.00 (SFW&S)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. I was rather disappointed in this latest HeidiSchrock Furmint. I’ve liked them much more in the past, but this was on the quiet/low-impact/undistinguished side. It may just need some age.
Heidi was the person mostly responsible for re-introduction of Hungary’s Furmint into the Burgenland, where it was once widely planted. I seem to recall that she is no longer producing a Furmint.
