TN: 2005 Roagna Barbaresco Montefico (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco)

A youthfully brooding nose with tar, iron, violet as much as rose, cherry fruit, earth, and a little medicine cabinet. On the palate, it’s still densely packed and tightly coiled on opening, not to say this wine is dense, just hiding a lot of depth and intensity. Even in this riper year, this is focused and detailed with more dark and red nebbiolo fruit, tar, menthol, and rose. Firm and still youthful, it finishes with firm fine nebbiolo tannins. On day two it fleshed out some. Promising, but for me it’s a few years too young. I will revisit in a minimum of 5 years. 93+ (93 pts.)
