La Tâche

Wonderful lunch yesterday with good friends.

2001 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche, Grand Cru: A highly-perfumed nose of aniseed, sandalwood, freshly grated ginger, Hoisin and red and black fruits. It is deep and penetrating, with the most sensual of textures. It builds through the palate, fanning out on the finish, leaving an exotic spice calling card. Drinking wonderfully well with plenty more in the tank.

1985 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche, Grand Cru: Let down by a sludgey cork. Too much V.A and nutty aldehyde to the aroma. The palate was ok texturally and had some tasty, sweet and vinous flavour. I have had much better bottles of this ’85.

1983 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche, Grand Cru: This is drinking somewhere near its apogee. Complex aromatics of Hoisin, sous bois, compost and smoke. The palate was fine and lacy, with excellent detail and exquisite balance. There is perfect harmony between sweet and vinous flavours and the more savoury elements. It has power without weight and the finish is expansive and so persistent.

proper lunch, as you’d say. nice work. happy Christmas!

Well done. I had the 85 Tache a few years ago and was underwhelmed, but also had a poor cork.

83 Tache is by far and away the best of the 83 DRCs , bummer about the 85.

Now that’s an excessibly baller luncheon!

Sweet, Jeremy. Love the ‘01, sorry about the ‘85

Rudy used new and better corks.

good to read about 2001. Sorry about 85. Best part was “lunch with good friends.” We can’t do that.

Wow.

Well done.
