TN: Two La Basia Reds...(short/boring)

Tried these two over the last two days:

  1. LaBasia Marzemino IGT: Benaco Bresciano “LaMorene” (12.5%: Frmtd in SS tank; www.labasia.it) Puegnago del Garda 2017: Very dark color; beautiful very fragrant strawberry/Marz/bit plummy/black cherry/bit floral slight earthy almost Nebb-like perfumed lovely nose; fairly tart/tangy brisk/racey/tangy/metallic strong floral/strawberry/Marz/black cherry bit earthy/rustic bit complex flavor w/some chewey tannins; very long/lingering floral/Marz/black cherry/strawberry some tannic/metallic/earthy bit complex finish w/ some hard tannins; a classic Marz aromatic red but a bit hard/tangy tannins like a Nebb; as a Calif rich/lush wine, this would be terrific; very good price at $18.00 (K-L).

  1. LaBasia Valtenesi DOC: Riviera del Garda Classico “LaBottePiena” (65% Groppello/20% Barbera/10% Sangiovese/
    5% Marzemino; 12%; Frmtd: Concrete tank) 2018
: Med.color; strong floral/lilacs/licorice/bit pungent bit Barbera/spicy/dried herbs almost Nebb-tarry but not as high-toned quite fragrant lovely nose; bit soft somewhat rich/lush rather floral/lilacs/grapey/spicy/bit pungent slight earthy/dusty lovely flavor w/ light smooth tannins; very long floral/lilacs/grapey/spicy/some Barbera-like light earthy/dusty finish w/ light tannins; reminds mostly of a lightish Barbera w/o the acids & tannins; no rusticity & quite an easy-drinking red at a great price. $16.50 (K-L)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. This was a new producer I found on the Kermit-Lynch WebSite about a month ago from an area you don’t see many wines from, on the Western shores of LakeGarda. I’m a big fan of Marzemino (Mozart’s favorite wine…we used to knock back btl after btl of them together), so I sprung for the two of these. Not profound reds, but very good drinking at a reasonable prices.

Ah, yes, Wolfgang and his Marzemino: “versa il vino! eccelente marzemino!”

Let’s hope no one drags you down to Hell after a glass of two…
