Many moons ago I was a wholesaler for Ferdinand Pieroth, selling mostly first pressings to restaurants and collectors by the case. in 2002 a wine arrived in our offices, and was tested as usual to determine who’s clientele was most suited to it etc (Ahem… at least that’s what we used to say) on this occasion the wine was so exceptional, and in such short supply (I think 8 or 9 cases were supplied) that it never reached the public in any form, the entire stock was purchased by our own reps and the remainder bought by a neighbouring office (Vicomte Bernard de Romanet) who had heard such a kerfuffle that they had come to investigate.
I bought 3 bottles, one was consumed when my wife told me she was expecting, and another disappeared when England won the Rugby Union World Cup in 2003. At which point my wife said “I thought you were saving those” so I set one aside in my daughters name to be given to her on her 18th, as the vineyard had informed us it was supposed to lay down for 20-25 years.
My daughter turns 18 on 26th Nov and she has no interest in wine, so I was wondering whether we should drink it or sell it?
It has no label but just a wax seal and a tag on a string, I’d love to know if anyone has information about this particular wine, and I’m sure this is the place to ask.
The tag says “Diano d’ alba Denominazione Di Origine Controllata” “Il Bruno” “Imbottigliato da S.E.A.S” DIANO D’ALBA-ITALIA per DUCA BORTINI DI MONTEBELLO
