TN: Dom.Rietsch PinotGris Ramato '19....(short/boring)

Stumbled across this wine at ArroyoVino on Wed, so had to try:

  1. Dom.Rietsch Quand le Chat n’est pas la Vin de France (100% PinotGris; 14.3%; U/lF; 28 days skin maceration; Camille Riviere/Fruit of the Vines) Jean-Pierre Rietsch/Mittlebergheim/Alsace 2019: Light ruby red bit browning color; slight funky/earthy/natty fairlt strong cranberry/PG ramato/grapey bit wet cat fur quite eccentric but interesting nose; fairly tart light cranberry/PG rather earthy/some natty/bit unclean/funky/wet cat fur slightly oxidized quite wierd flavor w/ light bitey tannins; very long bit oxidized/funky/natty/unclean light cranberry/PG fairly tart/somewhat sour bit wet cat fur finish w/ light bitey tannins; clearly a natural wine and quite bizarre/weird; a bit too natty for me to enjoy; not altogether unpleasant but pretty bizarre stuff that doesn’t offer up a whole lot of pleasure except on the intellectual level. $30.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. This is labeled as VdF presumably because a PG Ramato doesn’t qualify for an AC Alsace. This Domaine is 4-square in the natural wine camp. The natty character is evident but I’ve had much worse. The recent Forlorn-Hope Dragone PinotGris Ramato blows this stuff away. Don’t think additional age will reward this wine.
