TN: Sub Alpine (2013 Rhys)

2013 Rhys Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (11/2/2020)
Clearly a bad bottle, as it was nothing short of watery on the palate, and had zero middle depth. The finish was half decent, but even after two hours it was just plain boring. Not a typical Rhys Pinot showing.

Post script - it turns out that I do sometimes have bottles that are not so good (I don’t post on a lot of them…just not that interesting to write up bad notes). Since release I had tried this wine four times. It started out quite closed and dense. It eventually started to open up and become quite fine. Then this bottle hit. Totally weird showing. It was literally watery on the palate - as if almost nothing was there. I thought perhaps scalped by a bad cork, but much of the expected perfume emerged on the finish. It still wasn’t top form, but it showed what should have been there to some degree. Hard to figure this one. I have several more bottles, so hopefully this won’t be a preview of their performance.
