I'll be 60!! in five years. Maybe I'll open my last bottle of '66 Leroy Grands Echezeaux, maybe some of my stash of '05 Truchot, maybe '96 Krug... Who knows? Like Alan, we've started opening a lot more good bottles for no good reason (had an '07 B. Mascarello Barolo last week with homemade pizza).

Either 00 Palmer or 02 Monte Bello.
Actually, both.

Wow, killer bottle. What's your birthday? I'll also be 40 in 2023. September. Been trying to figure out what I'll want on the big day. Seems 83 wasn't a very good birth year?

83 is a great birthyear! There’s a bunch of good Bordeaux and especially Northern Rhône. Some good Burgundy if you’re choosy, and tasty Sauternes.

We opened a bunch of 83s for a friend’s birthday recently - the Chave, Cheval Blanc and La Mission were all spectacular.

In 5 years I will celebrate my 40th birthday.
I've already got 1986 Sassicaia and 2x 1986 Pichon Comtesse.
Hopefully I will be able to add 1986 Mouton to this line-up.
Any other recommendations?

Same here (June 30th). Margaux, VCC, Palmer, Cheval, Yquem are all excellent (95+ pts) with many more in the 90-94 pts category. Outside Bordeaux Grange is outstanding and many Northern Rhones too (thing Guigal’s LaLas or Jaboulet Aine La Chappelle.RyanC wrote: ↑April 5th, 2021, 9:03 pmMay 11.DaveStandridge wrote: ↑April 5th, 2021, 8:51 pmWow, killer bottle. Mouton and LLC usually get a some votes as top flight from 86. I’ve only had the latter and it will be perfect in 5 years, as would La Mission HB. Margaux is often included in that conversation but the bottle I tasted was less than spectacular.Christophe G e e r t s wrote: ↑April 6th, 2021, 3:15 am In 5 years I will celebrate my 40th birthday.

Sneaky good wines include Grand Puy Lacoste and Gruaud Larose. 86 Montrose also showed well last year.

Why sneaky? The Gruaud has been a star for many years. (I’d personally pick it over LLC every time if given the choice.)J.Vizuete wrote: ↑April 6th, 2021, 4:41 amMouton and LLC usually get a some votes as top flight from 86. Sticking with Bordeaux, a few other suggestions are Rausan-Segla, Certan de May, and Climens (and Yquem) for dessert. Leoville Poyferre was very good but I haven’t had it in a long time.

I remember a beautiful bottle of that I opened at Minetta Tavern back in the late 90s. Paid $40 or $45 for it at auction.Greg K wrote: ↑April 6th, 2021, 5:48 amIt very much did not.

I realized I’ve been following this thread but haven’t posted a wine.
Maybe 1976 Tondonia Blanco GR at age 50. It’s my only bottle of this, and it’s my only 1976 in the cellar right now.

I wanted to do that last year but my birthday extravaganza was cut short by covid so when it opens up enough, I'll have it this year.alan weinberg wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2021, 9:11 am shit. I’ll be 70. What happened? Will do big wines all year.

I have a few candidates but nothing specifically earmarked for the celebration. Lots of things to celebrate between now & then.

You will still need a long decant in 5 years, but it will be well worth it.
