TN: Rhys and European friends

brief notes. Don’t come looking for lots of adjectives, just impressions.

NV Vilmart Grand Cellier—finished all too fast. Bought 5 years ago, with a creaminess and calmness only a few years of cellar time can give a NV. Delicious, almost regal.

2006 Alesia Fairview Ranch Syrah—I was early on Rhys list after meeting kh in Burgundy and liking him and his philosophy before his first vintage sold. This is a super wine with room to grow. Smoked meat, blue fruit, herbs, licorice, big sediment, very Rhône and delicious.

2009 Rhys Horseshoe Vineyard Chardonnay—very Meursault, super fruit and shockingly fresh and delicious. No rush to drink others. Love the nose.

2005 B. Serveau Amoureuses—open and giving. Dark fruit with one foot primary and one foot secondary, no tertiary notes. Complex and beautiful, very giving. Concentrated on its beauty and not descriptors. Shared with others, so only had a few ounces. Will open another soon.

2012 Boillot Clos de la Mouchere—a wow white Burgundy. Riveting. Quieted the conversation among even nonBurg drinkers. Room to grow. Minerals and fruit with acid—wow. Annual must buy.

2004 Muller-Catoir riesling Mußbacher Eselshaut Auslese—orange marmalade and apricot in the best way. Fresh and complex, thick but not heavy. From a 375. Had to open a second.

Thanks. I have both of the Alesia/Rhys wines. Might have to grab the Alesia soon.

Pretty good notes for impressions.

Nice night.
