TN: 2018 Chanterêves Ladoix Les Briquottes

I love Chanterêves, but this was a bit of a bummer.

At 12.5% alcohol in a hot year, it just seems like they picked too early rather than work what the vintage gave them. There’s a markedly green stem/vegetal character that kind of dominates and the quality of the acidity is a bit screeching. It still maintains that delicate Chanterêves signature - quiet and elegant fruit - but the wine is out of balance. Hopefully it’ll knit together better in time.

Day 2: I left about half the bottle because I didn’t really want to drink anymore, and it has improved some today. The palate has filled out a bit, the stemminess evolving into more woody tones and the vegetal streak has receded somewhat. I’d say hold for a few years, though I do have my doubts it will ever become much more than what it is.
